Welcome Reverend Jay Petrella

Our Joint Board is excited and pleased to announce that Reverend Jay Petrella has accepted the call to become our pastor here at The Church of the Redeemer Moravian Church. We are grateful for your prayers and for God’s gracious leading of the Eastern District Board, our congregation’s Joint Board, and Jay during this Spirit-guided call process. Jay and his wife Erin are planning to move into our parsonage in mid-June, and they are looking forward to meeting and getting to know you.

Jay grew up in New Philadelphia, Ohio where he was a member of the Schoenbrunn Moravian Church. He graduated from Moravian Theological Seminary in the Spring 2008 and is currently serving as pastor of the Bruderheim Moravian Church in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

Before going to college, Jay made his living as an electrician, experience he also shared in serving Moravian missions in Central America. He enjoys gardening, particularly growing food crops, and is also learning to sew. And he sings tenor in the choir!! Erin is also musically gifted and enjoys playing & teaching piano.

Please pray for this young couple as they wrap up their work at Bruderheim and make the big cross-country move. Pray for our brothers and sisters at the Bruderheim congregation as they now enter the call process. And get ready to give Jay and Erin our warm welcome to Central Ohio and our loving support in the years to come!

On behalf of the Joint Board,

Phil Garrett, President, Board of Trustees

Ron Albaugh, Vice President, Board of Elders

Community Garden Plots Available Now

The Church of the Redeemer is once again hosting a community garden. 15’ x 15’ garden plots are available to local residents free of charge although we do request an optional donation of $25.00 to help offset water, supply and administrative costs. If you are interested or have any questions, please send a message to redeemergarden@gmail.com .

Community Garden Meeting

The Church of the Redeemer will once again be hosting a Community Garden this year and we will be conducting an informational meeting for all those who are interested in gardening with us. Our informational meeting will take place on Thursday March 29th at 6:00pm at the Church. At the meeting we will give a report on last year’s garden, answer questions and begin the registration process. However, garden plots will not be assigned during this meeting but requests will be noted. All interested gardeners are encouraged to attend with special emphasis for those who have not gardened with us before.

Good Friday Tenebrae Service

The service of worship on Good Friday evening is modeled after an early Christian service called Tenebrae. The name Tenebrae is the Latin word for “darkness” or “shadows.” During worship we will experience a small portion of Christ’s pain and suffering the day of His crucifixion. One of the most conspicuous features of Tenebrae is the gradual extinguishing of candles. As it gets darker and darker we can reflect on the great emotional and physical pain that was very real for Jesus on the Cross.

This year’s Tenebrae service will be held at 7:00 PM on April 6th at St Andrew Christian Church, 1985 Swansford Drive (at the corner of Swansford and Smoky Row – between Summitview and Hard Road).

Congregational Survey 2012

The results of this survey will help our Joint Board as they focus on the future, and will help prospective pastors become aware of the things that are important to the people of our congregation.

Irish Arts Program and Family Fun Fest!

Dear Families of “Wee-Folk”,

At Church of the Redeemer in Dublin we are getting ready for St. Patrick’s Day. The Arts Program is offering a 6 week class on St. Patrick and his life in Ireland. Pastor Jeff Van Orden will share about the life of St. Patrick and the shamrock symbol that he used to explain our relationship with God. Your child will also experience music, dance, folktales, and art of the Emerald Isle. Robert Black, The Gaelic Piper, will share his heritage through playing the penny whistle and bag pipes. Deanna Graham of Graham Irish Dance, will share the traditional costumes of step dancing and teach jigs, reels, and ceili dancing. Rebecca Shorter, The Leprechaun Queen, will share stories of the legendary wee folk of Ireland. The children will create works of art throughout the entire 6 week class, from creating a leprechaun home to decorating shamrocks for our big party on March 10. This program is designed for preschool-5th grade students.

On March 10 we will host the Irish Family Fun Fest for the third year. We will begin the day by participating in the Dublin St. Patrick’s Day parade. At. 1:00 we will return to the church for an afternoon full of Irish Fun. The children will perform the folktales they have studied, Robert Black will entertain with the penny whistle and bagpipes, Deanna Graham and her school will perform step dancing. This performance includes the students of the Irish Arts Program. Throughout the day there will be a silent auction. Retailers from the area have donated items or services for this event. This auction helps fund this program and all the other art programs for the children at Church of the Redeemer.
